My favorite photo to look at...

Of course I have way to many favorite photos of everyone and everything in my life, but there is one occasion captured that I look back on often. One would think it would be my wedding day or the birth of my child, but nope, it was my prom. Honestly I'm not a self absorbed person, as much as one could say that on their own blog, but I have horrible body image. Always have since I was teased in 5th grade by a boy named Andy that I had a huge crush on.I was chubby with a tight spiral perm with BIG red glasses. After the pre-puberty, medication induced weight gain that year, I tried starving myself as much as possible in 6th grade. I ate at home so my mother wouldn't yell, but I never ate breakfast or lunch at school. By 7th grade I was pretty thin, but I thought I was huge, this continued all through high school.

I like looking at these pictures because it reminds me of my distorted body image. In these pictures I thought I was obese. It may have been the "grunge" years but I draped over sized clothes and hid my fat body in flannels all through high school because I thought I was fat. What was I thinking?Honestly, I look back now and this was the thinnest I had ever been. But, looking back also tortures me since I now long to be thin again. See, double edged sword. Looking back helps remember not to be hard on myself and be happy with myself because I know I have distorted self image, but yet I want to be encouraged by the photos to see what my body can look like.

Believe me, I have many more photos I like to look at, this one just serves a purpose some days.

You do look beautiful in these pics. Can I tell you something? I NEVER thought of you as chubby or overweight at all!!

I was just looking longingly at my highschool pictures. Oh to be that little again. Sigh.

Look you very pretty in your high school prom pics, but I do think women really are much more beautiful as they age (I'm weird). I think you are very pretty now. I don't know you but you do not look overweight in your pics now. T.V. stars are underweight making the general population look fat.

Great post, darlin. You look so pretty in that picture.

And I love the above comment. I think women get prettier with age, too and Hollywood IS making us all look giant. Thanks a lot Paris and Nicole!!!

I loved this post! Good body images are hard to come by in those early years, I think. I found a notebook of mine from college with elaborate weight loss goals and exercise plans to lose 20 pounds, because I thought 130 pounds was huge. HUGE! HA! I haven't been within 30 pounds of that since college, but miraculously, I feel better about myself as an adult - - - hope you do, too.
