Our little visitor

This past week our neighbors were holding a box to our tree trying to persuade something to come down and into the box. Well, they didn't succeed and we later saw a baby raccoon in our tree. So small he was, obviously waiting for his mommy to come back. After that, we didn't think much of it.

Well, as JC and I were watching the animal planet, I looked over and saw the little guy on our front step. Reaching up by our door bell ( if it had batteries in it, it would be working).

Close up, the poor baby looked weak, he couldn't even run away. He struggled with getting off the porch. Looks like his mom won't be returning... What did our fine family give it? A cookie. We're all about the cookies...anyway...He walked away, but an hour later the cookie was gone.

So here's our lil' visitor...

What would you feed a raccoon? Dog food? And if you do, would that be opening up a whole can of worms with garbage digging and such? I feel so bad for this poor guy. He looks so hungry...

gah! He's cute. I'd want to feed him, too. I'd say cat food maybe? But, yeah....be careful. He might make himself at home!!!

Here is a lovely website that is all for feeding raccoons. Be warned though - they are a gateway animal. Next, you'll be feeding and naming all manner of wildlife from the neighborhood!

Oh my goodness if you feed him he will never leave. He will become like a pet. Your neighbors my not like that.

We have big fat raccoons coming to visit. We live on a busy street in Toronto and they love hanging out in our garbage bins ... no wonder they are so fat!! Ha!

I haven't seen the little guy since...we didn't end up feeding it either. I decided I wouldn't want more animals around the house. That would drive our dog insane. He'd be peeing everywhere in the yard to mark his territory.

:D

Look up wild animal rescue in your area...hopefully you or they can capture him and nurse him back to health!
