Beautiful? Yes indeed. (and a giveaway)

Beauty:the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.

No where in the definition does it state that beauty is only found in women wearing size 2 jeans with perfect skin and a movie star smile. These things are only fabricated by our media and Hollywood which in turn makes it hard for young women to understand and know their true beauty.

For years as a teen and a young woman, I did not embrace "my beauty". I didn't look like the girls in seventeen magazine or any other models, so I couldn't have been beautiful right? Wrong. Being a woman, learning to own the fact that you are beautiful can be a life long journey. A struggle to remember that it's not just your appearance, but what you put forth with your mind, spirit and attitude that makes you beautiful.

Recently I've had the pleasure to read We Are More Than Beautiful by Woody Winfree.

I can't say enough great things about this book which has inspiring excerpts from 46 teen girls. Reading these refreshing views from these young girls and their own thoughts of self-beauty was inspiring. Not to mention the great artistic collages to encase each girls words. Perfectly done.

One of my favorites was from a young girl Bailey. She goes on to tell how she is clumsy, sweaty from sports and other issues. Her last sentence seemed perfect to me, "I am beautiful because I say so and that's all that matters." Trust me, there are many more just like this from such gorgeous girls.

Another great feature that these great pages bound with wisdom has in it is the "A,B,C's of Feeling beautiful". It's a A-Z guide for naming, claiming and living your true beauty. Simple instructions such as exercise, judging and nurturing. A list so well composed for both young and older women to follow.

I throughly enjoyed this book which is directed towards young girls, but I think any woman would agree, it's never to late to know and learn that "We are more than beautiful". Books like these should have been in the hands of young girls years ago!

So, I would like to pass it on to you, my lovely and beautiful readers. I will gladly send one reader the copy. If you'd like to enter the book giveaway, please leave me a note. Remember to leave your email address if it's not on your blog or profile. Giveaway ends Monday February 18th at 4 pm.

Most importantly, stop by tomorrow for an interview with Woody Winfree, the author of We are more than Beautiful. You can always stop by her website, for more information.

Oh, I need this book! Not only for myself, but my 3 daughters (13,
12 in a week, and 9.) If there is any way to spare them the grief I went through during this awkward time of life, I will gladly do it! Hope to see you at the bloggy meet. Have you seen the latest IKEA flyer. Very pretty pink things!

Oh what a great post. You don't need to enter me (should go to someone with girls!) but I look forward to the interview!

I think this is a great post, donut. I would love to read the book, but I'll just borrow your copy; I agree with Arianne: the winning copy needs to go to someone with a daughter.
